Re: [Everything doTERRA] 45-Day Challenge

Yes, absolutely!  If meat is consumed, limit to not more than 3x per week, and not more than 4 ounces, which is about the size of your palm.  Since hands come in different sizes, I like to use standard sized deck of cards as a reference.

My family recently began reducing meat intake (prior to this cleanse I'm now doing), and we honestly were *shocked* to learn that we had often been consuming *WAY* more than our fair share.  For example, a single Rib-Eye Steak (a summertime favorite around here) is actually 3-4 serving sizes of meat!  Two of the four males who live here (my husband and youngest son) would regularly eat TWO such steaks! I grew up on a meat 'n potatoes diet.... Imagine my dismay when I learned that a diet high in red meat significantly increases one's risk of developing colon cancer, and that potatoes are actually one of the worst possible foods a person can eat, because they basically turn into sugar and REALLY spike your blood sugar (kinda like eating a Snicker's candy bar for dinner...).  So, yeah... we're working on changing some lifelong patterns around here.

One of the things that I so appreciate about doTERRA is the company's wellness philosophy, and that pyramid of what constitutes good health.  I love that the company doesn't say "we can magically solve all of your problems and rescue you from sickness", but instead says (in essence), "Hey, it's YOUR responsibility to make sure that you eat right, exercise enough, reduce your stress load, etc... and it's OUR job to help you do those things with educational resources, tools, and products to support your body's ability to heal."

Bottom line, it's up to each of us to decide if/when we're ready to do our part.  I have used essential oils for health benefits for many years.  Only recently, have I become willing and ready to do the other bits that I need to do, if I intend to be well.  It's been a LONG road getting to this point, full of some MAJOR challenges.  I believe that the use of essential oils has helped to bring enough mental clarity and emotional stability to me, that I can now face the reality of some of the more physical challenges, and begin to deal with those as well.

So, in a nutshell: I'm with Pat - posting to this list can potentially help others to improve their health as well. :-)

PS: This whole challenge thing is just that... A CHALLENGE... Do I expect to follow it perfectly each and every day?  Well, I hope to, but I am human, this is something entirely new for me, and I might possibly have a 'slip' here and there.  I have decided to NOT beat myself up in the event of a 'slip', but instead, to pick myself up, dust off, and get right back on the path toward wellness.  It's about PROGRESS, not perfection. :-)

Since I am not a big meat person, lets keep our meat intake to palm size? Posting it on this web helps everyone know what and how to do this. It is not just for weight loss but for better health.

Mmmm... King Crab!.... Well, how about a minor adjustment to the regimen, and settle for no animal products for at least 4 days per week?  *AND* on the days (if any) that animal products are consumed, how about limiting that consumption to only 1 meal per day?

I can live with that... How about you?

Yea Pat!!!  I'm so glad to have a partner in this challenge!!!  I awoke this morning, thinking that I'd made a huge mistake in setting such lofty goals, and then read your email, and realized that indeed it is something that CAN be accomplished!  So... Day One, Here We Come! :-)

Wow, Monica I am impressed. This is such a worthy goal and you have outlined it wonderfully. Lets see how well we do before next convention. Yes I said We!
I actually came home from convention with the determination to get back control of my body. It has taken me a week to eat all the bad food in my house, LOL.

I will be joining you for the 47 day challenge and will report back January, 2010.

If my math is correct, there are 47 days left in 2009.  Taking a day off for Thanksgiving and Christmas, that leaves 45 days.

In August, I had Swine Flu, which lasted for about three weeks.  After a few days of feeling well again, I got a cold, and have been dealing with congestion, cough, and somewhat of a cranky attitude because I can't seem to shake the creeping crud.  I am sick and tired of being sick and tired!

SO... Starting at Midnight tonight, I am beginning a 45-Day Clean Eating & Clean Living Challenge to Clear the Crud! (Yes, I do plan to indulge on both Thanksgiving and Christmas)

Here's my plan:

doTERRA:
  • Lifelong Wellness Trio Every Day
  • GX Assist for 10 Days followed by PB Assist for 5 Days
  • In Capsules 3 Times Per Day: 8 Drops OnGuard, 5 Drops Oregano, 3 Drops Frankincense
  • In Water: 4 Drops Cinnamon Bark, 8 Drops Ginger, 8 Drops Grapefruit, 8 Drops Lemon
  • Oil Pulling Therapy with 2 Drops Each of OnGuard & Melaleuca Morning & Night
  • doTERRA's Facial Skin Care Regimen Morning & Night
  • Body Moisturizer Made from Fractionated Coconut Oil and Whichever Essential Oils Meet My Mood

Nutrition:

Breakfast: Green Smoothie (Spinach, Fruit, Peppermint Essential Oil and Water)

Snack: Apple, Nuts, Seeds

Lunch: Hearty Salad with Dressing Made From Fractionated Coconut Oil and Essential Oils (Sometimes Savory, Like Basil & Oregano; Sometimes Sweet, Like Citrus Bliss)

Snack: Apple, Nuts, Seeds

Dinner: Veggie something-or-other... (In other words: No Animal Products Whatsoever Until the New Year - Except on Thanksgiving and Christmas)

Exercise:

Yes! At Least 30 Minutes of Cardiovascular Exercise 3 x or More Per Week + At Least 30 Minutes of Strength Training Exercise 3 x or More Per Week + At Least 30 Minutes of Yoga 2 or More x Per Week.

"I am learning to love to move my body in new and interesting ways, as I build strength and endurance"  (I think that if I repeat a gazillion times... it will eventually sink in... LOL)

Although I have never been a runner, I have a goal of completing a marathon by the time I am 50 (walking is OK).  I'm currently 43, so I figure that I've got plenty of time to train my body to do it!

Besides feeling run down, I am too heavy for my size (225 LBS @ 5'4"), and wish to 'lighten my load' in order to have more energy, increase flexibility and become closer to a healthy BMI.  I currently have a BMI of 38.62. This BMI puts me under the body classification of "Severely Obese" according to the CDC (US Center for Disease Control & Prevention). I am currently at a severe risk of developing Dyslipidemia, Type 2 Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, Stroke, Gallbladder Disease, Osteoarthritis, Sleep Apnea, Endometrial, Breast, and Colon Cancers.

For my height, gender, and age, a healthy BMI puts me in a weight range of 108-145 pounds, which translates to a need to lose between 80-115 pounds to be within a healthy range and reduce health risks.

If any of you wish to join me in this effort, I'd be happy to compare notes and share support!  Feel free to contact me directly via email.  If I can find a decent camera, I'll take photos of the progress.

To Health!

Monica
