I feel the reason a lot of people are dying from this is that they get sick
and then wait until it it's too late to seek medical care. I see it's
better to be safe than sorry

As for the H1N1 flu, I was in South America when this first started being
reported. People were being asked if they had any flu symptoms before they
were allowed to enter the country in many South American countries and if
they did, they were sent straight to the hospital. What appears to be
different about it and what makes the authorities very nervous is that, unlike
most flus, this is not putting elderly or at-risk people in danger of dying.
This is putting healthy, young people in danger of dying. That is why,
with limited supplies, they get first priority for shots.
I don't know what I would do in a young mother's shoes. I don't favor
shots, in general, and don't get the annual flu shot, though I always made
sure my children got all their vaccinations. But, when young, healthy people
are dying of something that they should be able to fight off, I can
understand why the authorities are worried. Carol

I work in a hospital. I wanted to share something will all of you moms out there. I also have children, 4 boys all together, and not a lot of people are aware of this. If you get your children the H1N1 vaccine, they need 2 doses of the vaccination to actually build up the antibodies. There are a lot of cases of small children being hospitalized and even worse, and the parents saying that they were vaccinated. They will definitely still get it if they don't receive that second dose. I find this extremely important, and I wanted to share it with you all.

I love all the Christmas goodies. My favorite to make is Cranberry Tea, a recipe I received over 20 yrs. ago from a gal at church. There is'nt any "tea" in it. I use sugar substitute unstead of sugar. It's easy to make, if anyone would like the recipe let me know. Linda <http://mail.yimg.com/ >us.yimg.com/ i/mesg/tsmileys2 /01.gif

I spoke with my dentist today - I was also curious - and she said 3 years old too. She said to bring my daughter in before a scheduled visit to make sure she is comfortable in the office before her 1st visit - let her color and get in the chair for a ride- I thought that was worth sharing.

Pediatric dentist will not see kids until they are 3 years of age and most dentist will not see them until they are 3. It is still a good idea to get some insurance Just in case of a dental emergency.

What is your favorite activitity to do with your kids during the hol

This year, we get everybody for Thanksgiving instead of Christmas. My other half is just so-so on the turkey, so instead of having leftover turkey for days on end, we make Friday night crab leg night. We get 'em in advance when they're on sale, and everyone loves it.
After dinner on Thursday (mid-day), we head out to the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City to watch the lighting. It's an area with Spanish-style architecture, and there must be millions of lights. They always turn them on on Thanksgiving followed by fireworks, and it's beautiful. Photos don't do it justice, and I'm a horrible photographer, but here's an idea: http://www.intrigueauthors.com/ blogimages/ Plaza%20Picture. jpg
My favorite of all was last year's day-after-Christmas silly string fight. I went to the dollar store and got about 40 cans of silly string, and thankfully it was warm enough for us all to enjoy. I've already got a bag full this year :) I've added some photos to the group album from the Plaza lighting + the silly string fight.

(I'm the one in the black/white shirt combo in the fountain pic.)
What do YOU do, or intend to do with your kids this year?
