[Everything doTERRA] Re: Oils and Babies

I have very little experience about oils, but I do think it is
important to know what to do if you have a problem. I have been using
On Gaurd on my children's feet for a little while but last week we had
a sick neighbor in our house and my two year old's nose was runny so I
decided to put On Gaurd on her chest. Wups! I basically rubbed some
on her feet and then put coconut oil in my hand and rubbed the
remainder on her chest. Within ten seconds she started to scream. I
instantly poured more coconut oil directly on her chest and rubbed it
around and then wiped it off with a towel. I did that a few more times
and then stepped back to look at her. Her chest was white but her side
body, the inside of her arms, a spot where the oil had run up into a
neck crease and two hand prints on her thighs, where I must have
placed my hands, were red and welted looking. She had calmed down a
bit, but we obviously still had an issue. I got some olive oil and
bathed her in it a few more times and then dowsed her in lavender.
Within a few minutes after that the welts calmed and not long after
her skin was beautifully white and smooth. Upon consideration. I
realized that she had a reaction to cinnamon about a year ago (a red
rash on her face after eating oranges sprinkled with cinnamon. She had
oranges all the time with no problem). I kept her off cinnamon for a
few months, but eventually some got past me and she was fine. We
haven't had any other issues with her eating it, but I guess the oil
is just too strong for her. Except her feet. Anyway, I know other
people who use it on their babies with no problems. But I was very
glad I knew what to do. Whenever I talk about oils with anyone I
always mention the importance of quality and how to clean it off if
you have a problem. I guess my intuition needs a little practice and
I don't want to damage anybody in the mean time. : ) I now keep a
sizable bottle of olive oil near by just in case.
