It almost takes getting a chronic cough before people arm motivated to take essential oils rectally.  You have to be to a point (especcially children) where you say...

"ok. I don't care, whatever it takes!!

Pat said you can use a rectal syringe, or you can place your oils in a 00 size capsule, lubrucate and insert the capsule. 

Repeat 3-4 times daily if needed.  Most effective before bed time.

Recommended oils for cough...

Frankincense
Thyme
On guard
Eucalyptus
Breath
Oregano

I have used 5 drops Frankincense, 5 drops On Guard and 3 drops Oregano...topped of with VCO myself if I feel a bad cough or wet lung coming on.  If I let it go, I am very susceptible to phenomena.

Our kids know this dreaded protocol  as the Butt Bomb.

Make sure you add carrier oil especially if you use oregano.
