Digestzen and Ginger will break up the mucus. Try it topically and in a capsule. 2 drops each. It's in the Modern essentials book, so look up the correct amount to use.

to coconut oil, add 5 drops of the following oils: marjoram, frankincense, eucalyptus, thyme and Deep Blue (deep blue has camphor which is great for coughs)  also basil and cypress

Let me know how it works and what oils seemed to work best.

I am so mad at myself for letting my son play with kids that had a
  fever the day before.  And then the same day went to the movie with my
  son and 88 year old mother-in-law.  My son's friend was coughing
  through the entire movie and wasn't covering his mouth, which he knows
  to do.
  
  Two days later my son is sick with the same cough.  Three days later
  my mother-in-law has a fever of 101.
  
  I am trying everything on the cough that the reference tools
  describe.  And, it still won't even decrease.
  
  Melalecua, eucalyptis, on guard, peppermint, breathe: all on the
  chest, back, feet, in the inhaler....
  
  Anybody have any other suggestions or protocols of these oils.
