I don't think thats fair, its not right that they are forcing people to get the shot. I mean what about people who don't believe in vacinations? I feel bad for the kid and imagine if you where the mom that had to watch that she must of felt horrible. Although I am for the shot I still don't believe that they should force it people. Actually, I live in Canada, and I have had my 2 yr old vaccinated - what we were told was that they were giving children the 1/2 dose to start, and that they should get a booster of another 1/2 dose about 3 weeks later. There has been some discussion about whether one dose is enough for young ones, but as far as I know, we'll be getting the booster next week.
In fact, with seasonal flu shots, there is an adult dose and a children dose, too, hence the discussion about the H1N1 shots.
Canada is actually ahead of many countries when it comes to supply of the shot. The government is saying that all Canadians who want the shot will have access before December.

Right there is the problem. people are freaking out all around the world because of the H1N1 flu. Kids under 10 yrs need 2 full doses to actually build up the antibodies. I'm sorry to hear that in Canada they really don't have enough supply. They shouldn't be given half doses, instead they should give all the kids at least the regular seasonal flu vaccine---that' s better than nothing. With one dose, its highly doubtful that it will do any good, unfortunately

I don't either. I definitely believe it is the parents decision, and if it's regarding an adult, then I think that the adult should be able to make their own decisions. It's really a touchy subject unfortunately.

How would you be able to tell whether or not the first event caused the second? How could you know definitively that there was no correlation?

"ask the moms..." is not a valid scientific study. We're not going down this road again where people start presenting their own anecdotal evidence to assert a claim of cause & effect.
I am *not* saying that there is no correlation - I'm saying it is in no way proven by assertions that x happened, then y happened, so x caused y. If I eat an egg and then get sick, there's no evidence that the egg was bad & caused me to get sick, because that "study" of mine did not eliminate the possibility that I was already getting sick, or that I didn't eat anything else that might have been bad, or that I have an undetected allergy to eggs.
Studies like this are done in clinical labs, with appropriate testing & controls. There are numerous published, peer-reviewed scientific articles (the only type deemed credible by the medical/scientific community) on the subject, and I do urge anyone who's concerned to check out such articles, and to share them with other moms.

I myself also received the flu shot, over 3 weeks ago, now I am fighting a
bad cold, runny nose sore throat, thats all it is.
My daughter (8) also took the flu shot and has no signs or symptoms of a
cold or the flu.
We both have taken it for years with no problem. I did however opt out of
the swine flu because her pediatrician stated only children with other
medical issues should take it.
It is the flu, there is nothing they can do for you, you need rest and need
to sweat it out basically. There is no treatment for the flu. I know 2
people at work who have had it, and within 3-4 days they were fine, but
again, they had not underlying medical issues, 2 perfectly healthy people.

Personally I was a little nervous about getting the H1N1 vaccine but did it as my doctor whom I am great friends with recommended it. Being that I am pregnant and my 2 smallest children are in the greater at risk category I wanted to be safe then sorry. And none of us got sick or had any kind of reaction but my children nor I have ever had a reaction to a vaccine so I think each and ever case is different and should be treated that way.

Great advice, Michelle. I won't be getting the vaccine for a couple of reasons - first, I have been through other swine flu scares, and have been told that there's a good chance I'm already immune. Second, I am in a very low-risk group, and I work from my house. Given the shortage of vaccines, I think it's only right that I forego getting one.
Everyone's situation is different, and so is everyone's risk tolerance. Some people are more fearful of the side effects than they are of the flu - that's legitimate, but there's just no one-size-fits-all where health decisions are concerned.

My understanding is that a recent study shows that about 20% of people will become ill after getting a flu shot, but that 20% of those who received a placebo shot also became ill. This suggests that those were people who were going to get sick anyway.

The whole shot thing is a huge can of worms. Some vacs can cause runny noses and low grad temps so can the flu shot. You must remember the flu shot is not a live vaccine so it will not cause you to get the flu it can cause other symptoms such as stated above. To those who believe autism is caused by a vaccination how can you be so sure. I believe it is something caused in the gut of mostly boys and some girls that is why the Gluten- free and casein free diet helps the kids tremendously.(I have done lots of research on this subject) My son is on the gf diet for Celiac disease,

Every year when one of my twin girls get the seasonal flu shot they do they same thing, feels icky, runs fever plus her arm get red and swollen but it only last for about 1 day, its funny tho this year the same thing happened then this past Friday she got the H1N1 shot and none of the same side affects, I was shocked because I expected it to be the same as the seasonal flu.

well, actually, the flu vaccine is a dead virus. that means that what they inject into you can't make you sick. its in fact the same virus that you catch, but they kill it first. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what happens. And after that, you can feel feverish or get a runny nose, but that's the true indicator that the body is building up the antibodies against the flu. does that help?

Yes I love saving with my coupons. I use quite a few websites for the coupons and the newspapers. I also angle my dinners menus with the flyers of at least two major grocery stores. Also use your smaller store such as CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid. Sometimes they have good sales in their grocery sections and depending on the sale price and coupon value you can make out better than the grocery store!. I can usually save anywhere from 50%-65% of my bill with coupons.
