Im with you on this one Kirstie, I too bake and make candies for gifts for the season, cook the dinner for the entire family and have decided that a nice new "do will inspire me to get started earlier this year and perhaps make me a little less stressed over my feeling of "empty nest" with my youngest.

Around the holidays, I like to pamper myself to a new hair style, and a new purse.
For the family, especially St Nick comes, brings special DVD's , and toothbrushes, instead of candy!  We also make a Happy Birthday cake for christmas and have a birthday party.

Hi, My name is Adair and I have one little boy. I also like to bake around the holidays. My biggest indulgence is pecan pie! Around the holidays I have to have one every year it's my favorite. My soon to be hubby loves pumpkin pie. This year we get to find out what our little one likes the best we can't wait till the holidays.

I try and find time for a girls night out with my friends... a glass of wine and lots of laughing before the holiday stress!

I just went yesterday and cut off my hair for Locks of Love- feels great to have all the hair gone and so much less work!

Woohoo! I'd forgotten about Egg Nog. I don't know why, but I've always loved it. I get everything from straight eggnog, to eggnog-flavored creamer for my coffee. since it's the only time of year they make stuff in that flavor, I'm pretty much a sucker for all of it.

The idea of toothbrushes sounds fun - do you get special holiday-themed brushes, or just regular ones?

Oh, I'd almost forgotten - I went to the Deals store (mostly dollar items) last week. They had snowman & Christmas tree-shaped silicone ice cube trays for a dollar each (each one makes like 8 cubes). The silicone molds also work for jello, and just about anything else. I got a handful of them and gave some to my friends who have young children.

Our 11-year-old just loves shaped ice cubes, don't know why. Last year at Christmas, just for fun I bought a silicone ice cube tray called the "Gin & Titonic" set - it's little Titanic-shaped and iceberg-shaped ice cubes (from a wacky company called Fred). He uses those all the time, and I'm thinking of getting some guitar-shaped ones this year - http://www.worldwidefred.com/cooljazz.htm
You can actually find these cheaper at other sites online, and I can't wait for him to see the dollar store Winter-themed cubes!

Hello!!
I have a 9 year old and 7 year old girl, 4th and 2nd grade.  They seem to be having trouble (more the 9 year old) with keeping their binders and homework and school papers organized.  I have helped her clean it out but she just pushes everything in there and crumbles it all up.
She is also behind on her homework.  She feels overwhealmed and I dont know what to do to help her!
I sit down with her at home but I have three other kids ( 5 year old twins) to take care of, dinner etc...
Is there something that you have tried or do you have any suggestions to help her excel in her school work and ease some of her stress?
Thanks!!!

Hi! I'm Tamara, from South Africa originally but I've just moved here from Ireland with my 16month old boy. I'm also a single mom and am missing all my friends tremendously but i don't doubt I'll be able to connect with wonderful mom's and others here too. We're loving the sunshine and not missing the Irish rain.

H1N1/Swine Flu

Posted by: "Tina Paulin" paulintina@yahoo.com   paulintina

Thu Nov 5, 2009 6:53 am (PST)

Good Morning,
Another family here tha won't be getting the vaccine.  Reason being that we have already had it.  According to our Dr's Ontario Canada, the only flu going around is the H1N1.  We have all had it in my family if that is the case.  The media as normal has inflated the stories, although there has been soem people pass because of this epidemic as it is being called.  Many have made it through, even some Dr's have had family with it and they are doing fine.
As for the media - @#$$@##$#@@#$$# - I have had the inflated stories about a situation my family was in.  When I read the articles, I was shocked because in MOST cases not one thing said was true not even close.  Go figure!
I absolutely love this group and the extensive knowledge and experiences of the collective.  So true women hold it all.  Thank you for all your sharing - Huge to me!!!!
Tina
