Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: Confused about Frankincense and Boswellic Acid

Watch that "old" stuff.

Ha, thanks Pat but looks aren't everything. Just trying to back into the swing of things again up here at my mountain shack. I think I'd rather write a humorous book...oh, wait, that's the arm; I'd be better at writing a book on legs. Yeah, that's the ticket..........

Thanks Holan,

I posted only a small bit of info I found, but yes, BA as an extract from the resin seems to make the most sense based on what I found as well.

In other words, it reinforces the notion the BA has to be an additive to the essential oil.

Still, I'll await clarification on this before incorporating the info into my classes & events. Looks like I have compiled enough info to write a book.

I'm no expert but from what I've read courtesy of a lot of text
available on Google Books:

Boswellic Acids are a non-volatile pentacyclic compound.
Essential oils are made of volatile compounds.

Frankincense extract contains BA.
Frankincense essential oils should not.

If you are doing MS on a solution of a frankincense essential oil,
BA should not show up as seen on the resource you found:
PMID 1270734 Chemistry and immunomodulatory activity of frankincense
oil.
The abstract showed the GC/MS

Also with the research you conducted above (http://cdli.asm.org/cgi/
content/abstract/12/5/575
) refrences Boswellia Serrata (Indian
Frankincense) extract which is used in our Alpha CRS+

If it does, then it contains BA from the resin.
