I use Lavendar on my dog and when she got a tick a couple of weeks ago I used lemon to rid the tick and then onguard and franki to bring down the swelling and kill any posion.  If I ask my dog for if she wants lavendar she get's so excited.     I say pretty much any oil is safe but very smal amounts, we use the oils on horses too and again way smaller amounts then for people.  Spine is one of the best places to put the oils.
