Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: oils to avoid during pregnancy

I wouldn't worry about using it during the first trimester and morning sickness. My midwife suggested it to me, but that was before I was hooked onto doTerra. My real thought was "peppermint? EWW! *tries not to hurl*"

Then during my labor, they used it to keep the nausea away. I felt my tummy rolling a lot, but as soon as somebody put the peppermint bottle under my nose, it'd instantly go away. I only threw up twice. Once in the beginning of active labor - I didn't know I was in labor until 5cm dilated and was trying to eat to keep up my energy for what I thought would be a long labor. Then one more time right when I was at 10cm with a lip. They did put the oil under my nose/on my upper lip once to keep the smell with me. I didn't mind the "burn", as it distracted me from my contractions.

My milk had no trouble coming in two days later. When the baby needed to be nursed during the night, my husband had to help me sit upright, as my chest felt like a weight bar was pinning me down. I would take consideration of potential nursing history. If your daughter has had children before and struggled with her milk supply, I would make extra effort to avoid peppermint. Me? I started seeing milk 11 months BEFORE I got pregnant. And with my mom's history of easy and long nursing times with her own children, I wasn't worried about hurting my supply for one day's use of oils.

I didn't know about avoiding peppermint and have been suggesting it to
my prego daughter since it is recommended for morning sickness and leg
cramps. We are curious to know why peppermint is to be avoided and
what alternative oils are suggested for leg cramps/charley horses.
