[Everything doTERRA] Re: Calming a big Dog

Behaviour shaping/Clicker training is the best way to do this. It's
how zoo keepers train wild animals in their care to submit to needles
for blood work etc. You can buy a clicker at most pet supply stores--
they are very inexpensive. Teach the animal that a click means
something good--like a treat they really like--by clicking and feeding
the treat several times. When the animal starts to look for a treat
when he hears a click, you know he's ready for this type of training.
If the dog is very nervous about the clippers it might take a long
time to train, but the end result is excellent. I have clicker trained
my horse and my two dogs! You can google this type of training and
find lots of good advice. Also, an alternative to clipping is to use a
dremel drill to sand the nail down. This is what I do with my dogs. It
takes longer, but you cannot cut the quick this way. As for oils, I
would suggest diffusing Lavender to calm him.
