and how often? For my 60 pound dog I use ONE DROP of lemongrass and ONE
DROP of frankincense and the oils stop a cluster seizure immediately. This
is only a 17 pound dog that has the allergies. If comparing to a child that
size, one could use a couple drops and be okay. Same with the dog? THANKS!

Jan, those mats can be a problem. Unfortunately when they get to be
that bad you are probalby looking at bringing them in for sedation,
esp if the cat is unwilling to cooperate. I've shaved many-a-cat under
sedation and it works well. I understand not wanting to put your cat
under sedation for something like that, and most clinics will require
some vaccinations before that is done (although not all of them do).
The problem with shaving a cat that is out of control is that they
have very thin skin and a shavor could slice them right open, and when
the mats get too close the skin you start to see some real medical
issues underneath the mats. Skin needs to breath, you know? One idea
is to have it done with another procedure...such as a dental cleaning.
Most cats are in need of a cleaning and many clinics will do both in
one procedure. Keeping up on your pets dental care is one way to
really extend their health and life. Unfortunately I don't have much
more advice than that :) Hopefully someone else will have some better
oil advice on that one!

Allergies are usually classified in 3 categories...inhalant, food or
contact (which could be from parasites, perfumes, soaps, cleaners,
dust, etc.). They can be a real challenge to deal with. Holistic
Aromatherapy for Animals has the following EO recipe for itchy skin:
1/2 oz base oil
2 drops Geranium EO
6 drops Rosewood EO
6 drops Lavender EO
1 drop Roman Chamomile EO
2 drops Carrot Seed EO
Combine and store in a dark glass bottle. Hope that helps! Also look
into cleaning up the air in the home by diffusing and adding some
moisture by humidifier. Good luck!
