I have tried several other diffusers over the years (even from AromaTools, aka Abundant Health), and initially hesitated to purchase the one from doTERRA, for the simple fact that I'd not found any that I really liked and didn't want to spend the money. A friend convinced me to try doTERRA's, and once I did, I realized that I'd invested wisely.
1) It is MUCH quieter than any others I'd tried in the past.
2) It works! (In other words, the desired effect, ie: my family not getting sick as often, is realized with this diffuser; whereas others I'd tried didn't seem to do their job)
3) I bought it from myself, as part of an AutoShip order, which meant that I earned points toward FREE products!
For other reasons besides these three main ones, I LOVE my diffuser from doTERRA!
As far as the ones with the tea light candles underneath.... here's the deal: If you ONLY want your home to smell nice, sure - you can use those. And, if you're on a super-tight budget, perhaps that's the way to go, until you can afford doTERRA's diffuser. The problem with the oil burners, is that the essential oil becomes hot, which alters the molecular structure of the essential oil. Yes, you may still benefit from a pleasing aroma, but you won't receive all of the therapeutic benefits that properly diffused essential oils can do for you. The question then becomes: For the money that you are investing in the essential oils, don't you wish to receive ALL of the benefts that doTERRA's Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils can offer you? Why heat the essential oil and damage it? Perhaps, if you cannot purchase doTERRA's diffuser right this second, you can instead simply use the essential oils in another way.
We now have an amazingly useful book, Modern Essentials, available through AromaTools (http://aromatools.com), which features doTERRA essential oils and what they can do for you. The book costs just $25.00 or thereabouts. Particularly since you are new to the essential oils, I would HIGHLY recommend that book as one of your very first purchases to support you on your journey of helping yourself and your family in a natural way. This book includes a Personal Usage Guide, detailed instructions for AromaTouch Technique, and all sorts of other info.
Next, with that book and your essential oils in hand, share doTERRA with people you care about! As an Independent Product Consultant, you will earn a significant commission as a Fast Start Bonus as the Enroller for all new members' order within their 1st 30 days! The Fast Start Bonus is equal to 20% of your 1st level new enrollees. If someone you enroll shares doTERRA and enrolls someone else, that person would then receive the 20% Fast Start Bonus, and you will receive 10%! A woman recently told me that she felt uncomfortable asking her friends and family to come to a doTERRA event, and that she was shy about talking to people she didn't know about it.

Ok... So I know that was long-winded, and part of it was not really what you asked about. On the other hand, your primary issue seemed to be financial.. You'd like a doTERRA diffuser, but it seemed out of your budget reach, right? Can you now see the opportunity before you that can help you build stability and wealth for your family? For some people, wealth means masions, yaghts, and jets. And some of the folks in my organization were previously also really struggling financially too, and they realized the potential financial rewards with doTERRA, made the decision to invest in their futures, and are now reaping the rewards of doing so!

AromaTools.com (or Abundant Health) has a diffuser that I like. Try to get a

with any of the other's on the market. Also what about the diffusers
that use a tea-light candle under the vessel that holds the oils.
Again, I know that the doTerra one is best for lots of reasons. But
surely there has to be one that is okay for a time period. I would
