Drs prescribe drugs from pharmaceutical companies that are researched and created and tested. It costs a lot of money to do this, and the Rx companies are able to patent their medications and charge us a lot for them. These oils are not created, therefore they can't be patented, so no company can be sure they will make their money back after spending a lot on research and testing. The FDA has determined that EOs are supplements, not medications, so they are regulated differently and are not treated as medication by the FDA. Also, dosing and delivery are difficult to prescribe with EOs because of their nature - they have hundreds of compounds and we each respond differently to them. However, there is a ton of research on EOs because these same Rx companies look at the EOs and find out which ones do whatever it is they are looking for, then they look at the compounds in the EOs and determine which ones are doing the specific thing, and they copy that compound and create a synthetic drug they can patent. So, you can circumvent that process by just using the oil instead of the copy, but a Dr isn't going to prescribe it because a) the FDA hasn't given them permission to, b) Rx companies market their products to Drs and that is where Drs get a lot of their info about new treatments, and no Rx company is going to market EOs, and c) it is difficult to dose an EO. Listen to the May 8th Dr Winterton call that is recorded at www.reinventinghealthcareinfo.com - downloads, he explains a lot of this as well. Once a Dr is introduced to EOs, that Dr can recommend it as something for the patient to try, the same as he/she would recommend taking extra vitamin C for colds or chamomile tea for sleep, but it won't be part of any prescription from a standard Dr. I know this is a bit rambling, but I hope it helps you!
