I have a niece with a chiari's malformation. The main symptoms are
vicious headaches (the skull actually is malformed in such a way that
the brain stem is slowly forced into the spinal column) surgery tries
to correct the bone malformation, and often includes implantation of
shunts to drain off excess spinal fluid if necessary.
So anything that works with headache relief - test the person if you
can, but past tense, straight peppermint, balance, serenity (anxiety
re major brain surgery!)
and all the best, even with 2 surgeries, my niece still suffers
terrible migraines...
