Re: [Everything doTERRA] VM & silicon dioxide

Pat

The Silicon and Titanum Dioxides are used in the making of the gel caps holding our VM formula.  Silicon dioxide  is also used in our CRS gel caps.  These ingredients are listed on the "other ingredient" section.  These minerals are used in very small amounts.  I have heard Rob Young estimate no more than 10mg of silicon and less than that of the titanum.

To give you an understanding...
(One) 1oz is equal to about 28,000 (twenty eight thousand) Mg
or
1oz = 28,349.50mg... the capsules contain no more than 10mg of each.

At least one of these minerals are used in approximately 75% of all capsules and tablets in the pharmaceutical industry.

They are both approved for human consumption by the FDA.  (like it trust them)

Our Silicon dioxide is natural occurring form of the mineral silica
source we use comes from horsetail extract.  Silicon (Si) is present in more than one fourth of the earth's crust and is widely distributed in the soil, plants and water.  In the body, silicon is found in highest concentrations in connective tissues such as collagen, tendons, cartilage, the trachea, blood vessels (particularly the aorta), eyes, dental enamel, bone, hair, and skin, specifically the epidermis.  Silicon-deficient diets resulted in retarded growth, poor bone development, and more atherosclerotic arterial plaques in animal studies.  Silicon has a similar healing potential on cartilage and joint degeneration as sulfur, so both can be helpful for various types of arthritis.

Next to Bioflavonoids, silicon (or silica) are helpful in keeping blood vessel walls healthy, and it has been found that silicon concentrations of the thymus, skin, aorta and other arterial vessels decrease with increasing age and with the onset of atherosclerosis, which is reversible to some extent with oral or intravenous doses of silicon.  Silica promotes the union of bone after a fracture, in contrast to calcium, which can actually slow the healing process or interfere with it altogether, especially when calcium levels are on the high side.

There is acutally has a RDA/DRI (recommended daily allowance/daily recommended intake) of up to 500mg and it is estimated that the average adult comsumes between 20-50mg through mostly whole grains (oats and barley), sugar beets, sugar cane, soybeans, turnips, green beans and other vegetables.

The silica, is added during the manufacturing of capsules and tablets formulations to reduce clumping.

The Mineral Titanium dioxide is an opaque material that protects light-sensitive actives from photodegradation.  It is regarded as an inert, non-toxic substance by the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), USFDA and others charged with the responsibility of safeguarding the health of occupational workers and public health.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (2002) allows for its ingestion, external application including the eye area, and considers it a safe substance for public health. Other epidemiological studies showed that workers exposed to titanium dioxide exhibited no statistically significant relationship between such exposure any known disease.

The bottom line is that Titanium dioxide is listed as a safe pigment, with no known adverse effects. It is not listed as a carcinogen, mutagen, teratogen, comedogen, toxin or as a trigger for contact dermatitis in any other safety regulatory publications and the conclusion is by all health and regulatory organizations is that titanium dioxide is not a disease causing substance and is generally safe for use in foods, drugs, paints and cosmetics.

Despite these findings and conclusions, I would assume there will always be controversy.  The mere fact that these minerals are "dioxides" will always raise an eyebrow.  People will have to come to there own conclusion on the minerals.

BTW, I have never heard nor seen indications that Silicon Dioxide can be an allergenic, however I have heard of rare cases where Titanium Dioxide has caused allergic reactions.

These are both generally accepted as inert minerals.

She may be reacting to other supplements contained in the LLW pack.  If she is interested in finding out, see if she is willing to take one capsule at a time from one of the three complexes, and observe the reaction.  If she wants...

Dear friends,

I have a new IPC who, yesterday, was excited about doTerra and the
products (she signed up after listening to Dr. Hill's first webinar on
Health, Hormones and Essential Oils), but today is a different story!
Can you help me give her a good answer/explanation?  Thanks.

I found on the Microplex VM silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide on
the label after I already opened the bottle.  Last time I took a
supplement with either of these in them, I broke out in a rash and my
lips swelled up.  Unfortunately, I don't want to experience that
again!  Silicon dioxide is used in making silicon chips, cement, and
pesticides.  I can't remember what the titanium dioxide is used for
but I don't want to experience any more adverse reactions.  Why would
Doterra take something so good and pure and put these two things in it
that are so bad?
