[Everything doTERRA] Re: VM & silicon dioxide

Melanie,

The following is what Rob Young wrote in reply to my question:

A very small amount of silicon dioxide, also called silica (the most
common element on earth), and titanium dioxide (also a common earth
mineral) are used as lubricating agents so material will flow into the
two-piece gelatin capsules. They are extremely safe are would used
throughout the food industry, as well as other industries. (Water is
also used to make silicon chips, cement, and pesticides.) If you eat a
carrot from your garden you will likely get a good dose of silica, a
primary component of dirt. Some people even supplement with silica for
stronger hair and nails.

It is highly probable that something else in the supplement caused
this person's rash and lip swelling. Silicon dioxide and titanium
dioxide are found in many, many consumer goods. It is used in
thousands of supplement products as a flow agent for filling capsules.
Attributing an adverse reaction to these inert fillers is without
scientific basis.
