Thank you very much for sharing this information. This will greatly give hope to mothers with kids having need for speech therapy.
Have a great day.

Subject: [mompowergroup] free speech therapy for your child-any ideas for reading tutors?
Hi all,
I have been home schooling my children off and on for the past 4 years. I have one boy and one girl (elementary school aged). My daughter learned to read very easily and has excellent vocabulary and speech skills. My son did not. He has trouble pronouncing many sounds, such as the "r" sound and various other sounds. Unfortunately, as reading and speaking go hand in hand. My son is having great difficulty learning to read. When we were in the school district, we had speech therapy funded through the school district. However, in California they stopped allowing the benefit to home-schooled children. Does anyone out there have any ideas for low cost reading tutors or support in Southern California? I would also like to share some great news for those for parents to turn too when they do not have private speech therapy funded by the school district.
Generally, we as parents simply do not have the financial resources for private speech therapy. For those who don't, you may want to consider the Scottish Rite Center for your child with special speech needs. They provide free speech/language evaluations and therapy for children whose primary area of concern is speech/language. Their services are provided without charge for those children who do qualify (cannot obtain speech therapy through the school system.)
I feel so lucky to have found the Scottish Rite Language Center. I have been extremely impressed with their program, and the specific attention to detail in regards to my son and his speech needs.
I have been thrilled with the speech pathologists my son has worked with at the center - their perfect combination of work and fun, their friendly disposition and their extensive knowledge is a rare gem in today's world.
Here is the link to their website, with all of their contact information: http://www.sdscotti shritelanguagece nter.org/ There is a small waiting list-but its definitely worth the wait!

Hi Kirstie,
The best time to get the Valentine's special chocolate collections is the day *after* Valentine's...
I am weaned off chocolate, but it tasted so sweet when I was into it :-)
Also thanks for the sensible way of moderating, great job!
Love,
Claudia

My sweetie is out in San Francisco for work for the week, and I did suggest that he check out any Ghirardelli chocolate special collections. :)

Valentine's day with the kids

Hi Kirstie,
My 2 oldest boys are in 1st grade & Kindergarten. My K-age son was
requested to bring a cleaned empty gallon milk jug from home to be made into
a Valentine holder & I think in last week's 1st Grade Newsletter I read that
the other son is decorating a paper sack for his Valentines.
Yes, they are still required to pass out the paper cards, and while most
kids don't seem to care about the card itself, only if they get candy with
them, my oldest son loves seeing his name written by his classmates. Both
the Kindergarten & 1st Grade teachers encourage us parents to have our
children write at least the "to" and "from" on the cards (& the names too if
the child[ren] can) as it teaches them penmanship but also how their friends
like their names to be spelled.
rather than candy, I am making crocheted heart pins for the girls & will
include a pencil for the boys in both classes.
