I'm not a specialist, but I am a mom that nursed all three of my children for over a year each and they did the same thing.... I would only give them one per feeding because they would fall asleep or just not want any more then I would nurse from the other the next time... they did fine. I found that you don't have to nurse for long before the fore milk is done and the hind milk starts... does this make sense? Baby is probably getting lots without you even noticing. As long as baby is doing fine, RELAX!! You will have lots of milk and have faith that your body knows what it's doing... after all it made a baby.... Enjoy your little one!

I would suggest contacting a lactation consultant or your local La Leche League leader.

hi there-
just had my second - son: 9 lbs 7 oz - last tuesday.
i am nursing and he seems to be doing well.
the only thing is that i am only able to nurse on one side before he falls
asleep (to the point where i cant wake him) or is finished. between 7am and
11pm i nurse on demand without waiting longer than 2 hours between feedings.
At night it is by demand, but i wont wake him unless it approaches 4 hours
between feedings. this is the schedule i was advised to follow until he
returns to his original birth weight. is there any risk to my milk
production if i just nurse on one side each feeding (rotating from left to
right and back each time) instead of splitting the time half and half to use
both sides? i know the last of the milk is the richest in nutrition...
if you know about this, i would appreciate your thoughts.
thanks!

I would ask a lactation consultant, and also his pedtrician, as long as he is gaining the weight that he is supposed to. Also, look into the Medela website, they have where you can nurse, and also supplement with formula if you think he is not getting enough. If you need to get your supply up. you can pump between feedings (that's what I did) also did drank a supplemental tea called Mother's milk, or mother's milk plus. I am not sure where you are from but if you look under Medela.com they should beable to give you places where they carry the pump n style, or you may be able to rent the hospital style grade punp, I used to work with alot of nursing mother's in the pharmacy, and was in charge of giving advice. I know that where I used to work called Ye Olde Pharmacy in Cedarburg, WI will ship out items if you need them. If you need that info please let me know.
Good luck!
If you need any other advice please let me know!
I bet your little guy is really cute!
Best wishes!
Lisa

hi! my pedia gave my baby nasal saline drops when he had a cold (he was at that time, 1 year old), 2 drops each nostril, 2x a day. That should ease the congestion..:) i still use it every now and then when his nose is clogged or has a slight cold. i hope it helps.

I've used homeopathic tinctures recommended by our pediatrician with my under 2yrs children. Her advice worked so well for our family that in the last few yrs between 5 children we've had 0 sick visits, only wellness checkups.
Wishgarden, Nature's Sunshine, and Hyland's all have remedies for children that have worked fabulous with no side effects. I wish I'd known about this with my first 2 children.
I recommend googling those brands or stopping in a local Vitamin Cottage or Whole Foods where you can discuss it with their trained staff.
Our pediatrician advises against all conventional medicines (robitussin, dimeatapp, tylenol cold etc.) as she says they are full of sugars, alcohol, dyes, chemical preservatives that will depress a child's immune system and prolong getting well.

When it comes to choosing Saline drops , you have to be careful as most of them contain PRESERVATIVES. Preservatives are irritative and may create sensitization. My pediatrician recommended for my baby girl a natural saline solution: Cleanoz Saline preservative free in very convenient and hygienic single use applicators (www.drugstore.com).
