she have this condition on just one leg, or all four? What kind of
work has she been doing in her life (i.e. jumping, dressage,
western...) I am not a vet, but I own a horse and have a fair amount
of experience with horses in general.
Ringbone is basically osteoarthritis. In addition to whatever oils
people might suggest, I would strongly encourage you to get a set of
Back on Track wraps, and start using them. (It is likely the Quick
Wraps that you would need, as these cover the coronet band area.
Bonus: they are not that expensive compared to other therapies like
cortisone shots etc.) I had excellent results from this product with
my mare, who had an "incurable" blemish (according to the vet). After
6 months of Far Infrared treatment, the blemish was gone. Far Infrared
therapy is very pain relieving, and will bring blood flow to the area,
which will help to at the least stop the progress of the condition,
and possibly reverse it. One caution: do not use any oils or other
liniments under the Back on Track bandages. Apply oils on turnout, and
put the bandages on when she is in her stall.
You can read about Back on Track on my website, but you will have to
find a U.S. distributor. Email me and I will put you in touch with
someone I know down there.
