[Everything doTERRA] OCD

Has anyone had any experience with OCD in toddlers?  We have a grandson who is  22 mos.  He is so smart, but is starting more and more to exhibit signs of obsessive behavior.   We wonder if it’s associated with an insecurity, though he is so happy, seems very secure overall, very outgoing, laughs all the time.   He started with the obsessiveness in having to have the car keys.  He knows exactly who every set of keys belong to in the family.  You can’t fool him.  When he wants “Papa’s” keys, I can’t give him mine nor can Papa give him mine.   Even though they look so much alike.  He knows.  He has done this probably for 4-5 months now.  The minute he sees us, he says…KEYS.  He doesn’t let up.  We of course, give him the keys and then he is on to other things and conversation, but keeps a hold of the keys.  In other ways he is normal in that you can distract him from  wants and he forgets quickly and moves on.  Not with keys.  He will get bored and give them back when he wants to, but when he wants them it’s weird how obsessed he is.    He will carry them faithfully in stores, everywhere.  Not good.  You rarely have to worry he will lay them down and forget them anywhere.  His parents won’t let him in the front seat of the car because he knows how to use the keys too.  SCARY.  I goofed the other day, not knowing this, and let him in the front of the car for a minute while I was getting ready to leave.  He was breathing hard, and in a panic to get to that drivers seat and get those keys in the ignition and play with the wheel.  That’s when I really thought this is obsessive.

He has to have the light on in the car, not anywhere else, but in the car.  There are a few other little fetishes I can’t remember right off.  These little traits seem to be developing into more things.  He has a huge vocabulary for a one year old.  (Probably at least 300-400 words.)  He can communicate very well .  He understands pretty much everything you say.  He catches on really quickly in learning things.  I have another grandchild the exact same age who isn’t even close to being able to do what this child can do.  So I bring up all of this just in consideration that maybe there is a “connection” somehow.  I don’t know if there is something to be concerned about.  I have not had experience with ADD, ADHD.  Are these early signs of those disorders?

BTW, my daughter and husband are pretty strict with this child.  He doesn’t get away with his little tantrums over the basics.  They let him cry, put him in time out, etc.  They don’t get riled up.  But the “key” thing is above and beyond.  It just seems to calm him down and give him some kind of crazy security to have them.  And, come to think of it, the key obsession has to be a car key set.

I read where OCD can be caused by a “germ.”  Anyone know about that?  If so, then I’m guessing there could be an underlying virus?

Thanks!  ~Debbie
