[Everything doTERRA] Calming a big Dog

My friend Ian wants to calm is dog to be able to trim its toenails.
It is a big white dog a Maymana not sure how to spell it. They live
amongst and protect sheep.
The local vet has told him these dogs have bad reactions to
anaesthesia Risking its life to cut its toe nailsThere must be a
natural way?
All suggestions welcomed
