I don't know that I'm wise but the oils I've passed around at ppt presentations pick up oils off of their skin when they touch the white insert and their "smell" seems to stay on the white plastic insert which in turn can (eventually) mix with the oils in the bottle. I kindly ask that no one touch the top of the bottle but it almost always happens and there's not much you can do about it.

When I share in a one on one situation it doesn't seem to happen and I believe it's just a courtesy (to the next person who tries the oil) not to touch the top/ white insert.

With my personal oils, I don't feel that the oils are affected when I touch (I keep my hands relatively clean) the threads of the bottle or the white insert  as I wipe them clean before putting the cap back on. This is my opinion.
