Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: Peppermint Oil Allergy?

When I first went to an oil meeting my eyes were going crazy because she was using a diffuser. I had to sit across the room from it and still had problems. I am super sensitive to fragrances and actually do not like the smell of most of them. But they work. The smell does go away pretty quickly so to be sensitive to others I put it on or use them before I go somewhere so it has time to absorb. However I have started using peppermint occasionally in the gym if my asthma acts up. Just beware people are sensitive to fragrances. Even natural ones. And some people have a higher sense of smell than others. Here is an example. We went to the Discovery Science Center that has a Rot Room. Everyone in my party gladly walked into the room. I couldn't even step foot in it because of the smell. As I waited across the hall I saw other parties of people who had one or two in their group not be able to go inside or rush outside. Of course there can also be Psychosomatic reactions. Our memory is very closely linked with smell. However, it's not a nice thing to just tell someone it's in their head. Not sure what you will do at work and need relief. Maybe putting it on in the bathroom? Or on your break if that's possible.

Dr Pappas said that anyone can be sensitive to the oils! We always have to use caution and be intuitive when using the oils.
As for allergies, it would be difficult to be allergic to oils since allergies usually stem from the protein in the offending material. The oils have no proteins.

I'm not 100% sure but I  think Dr. Pappas said people can be allergic or have a sensitivity to oils.  My sister is very sensitive to scents,  particularly synthetics, and hesitated using oils.  She found that the only one that bothers her though is peppermint.  I also know another WA who loves the oils but she is so sensitive she will have skin reactions if she's exposed to too many or too much oils at one time.  She limits oil use during her classes for this reason. People have allergies to natural substances in nature so this could apply to oils as well.
