As someone suggested, the oils may not be a good idea in plastic. However, you might consider Grapefruit seed extract if you find you need to stick with the plastic for now.

Dr. Sue's paper on Lemon Oil says: Use in canteens to keep water fresh, to avoid mold and keep slime from developing. Proven effective against food poisoning, malaria, typhoid and scurvy.
We refill the large, blue water containers at our grocery store. I am constantly fighting mold growth in the containers. How much lemon do you think it would take in the full container to reduce mold growth?
