My story is very similar. First I was just disgnosed with a sinus infection and bronchitis, then allergic asthma, and now its just full blown asthma :-/. I put lime and cypress in the diffuser by my bed at night and peppermint and lime throughout the house during the day. Those seem to work better than anything else at keeping it at bay. If I'm having a cough attack I'll put a little coconut oil and a drop or 2 of DDR Prime under my tough(not the most pleasant...but it works!) and its gone.
