Three years ago I got a sweet baby from a shelter that was exactly like yours. Tucker was 2 and scared to DEATH of everything. They had to tranquilize him to get him in a crate for us to bring home. When we got him home, we took him straight upstairs to our bedroom. And we left him alone. We would go up and sit with him and talk to him but didn't try to touch him. We gave him space. We never crated him, it's a personal thing. We took his food upstairs and he ate when we left. It took about a week, but then he heard the rest of the clan playing downstairs and he barked. We took it as our cue that he wanted to join us. He hid but just watched everything for about another month. The first time I touched him I cried. Fast forward and he is now the most loving sweetie pie on the planet. He gets along with all the other dogs, eats with them and jumps in my lap for snuggles and belly rubs. I use alot of lavender on him because he is still skittish around my husband, but I know he will come around. Good luck with your new baby!

We just got an abused dog at the shelter that hasn't been very well socialized and is scared of about everything. He's difficult to catch when he's outside and all he does when he's inside is hang out in his crate. He will only eat at night in his crate when no one is looking and just likes to be left alone. Any suggestions?
