[Everything doTERRA] Re: Peppermint toxic to dogs?

Peppermint is fine for dogs!

Actually, in Kristen Leigh Bell's book, Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals, on p. 48 lists the "top 20 essential oils for dogs" and peppermint is on the list. In the front of the book, on p. 22, there is a list of "essential oils that I recommend avoiding with animals" and of course peppermint is not there. However wintergreen is there and that's the concern I've seen most commonly discussed. The AromaTools dog care sheet recommends Deep Blue for dogs and Deep Blue contains wintergreen. However, I'ved used it on my dogs, as have others, with no problem. I assume it's because wintergreen is only one of 7 oils in Deep Blue, plus when I use it I make a roller of 15 drops each of deep blue, aromatouch and frankincense, plus FCO to fill a 5mL roller, so the wintergreen is diluted even more.

Also, here is a website that also lists peppermint as safe for dogs: http://www.natural-dog-health-remedies.com/essential-oils-for-dogs.html
