I finally broke down and gave her a sentinel. I've been trying the natural methods for about 5 months and it has worked well, but it seems the warmer weather in FL and the sandy soil makes fleas inevitable. However, I would suggest washing your dog weekly with a good quality soap. I used the dog soap from Sweetwater farms. This lady makes great soaps with essential oils. Just google Sweetwater farms. Also, I add essential oils to her skin as I'm washing her. After she is washed and rinsed, I douse her (not her head or face) with a 50/50 mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. I don't rinse this off. A bonus is that it makes her fur super soft! During the week, I'll spray her with a combo of oils-lemongrass, cedarwood, terrashield, melaleuca and rosemary. I try not to overdo this my dog is a bloodhound and has a very sensitive sense of smell. I will also use food grade diamataceous earth and rub that into her fur when she is scratching too much. That seems to work the best at killing the fleas that are on her. Also wondercide works really well, but again it has a strong smell so I can't use too much of it.
