Re: [Everything doTERRA] phenol content

Research was done at Weber State University, this research proved that
most viruses, fungi and bacteria cannot live in the presence of many essential
oils, especially those high in phenols, carvacrol, thymol and terpenes. In the
old testament Moses used aromatic substances to protect the Israelites from the
plagues. Phenols are found in oregano and thyme oil and are highly antimicrobial.
The aromatic constituents of essential oils (ie phenols, terpenes, aldehydes)are
consructed from long chains of carbon and and hydrogen atoms, which have a
predominantly ring-like chemical structure.
So in answer to your question, phenols are a very important part of most of
the Savory oils, they are also very powerful. Because of this, the precautions
you need to be aware of, are not to take some essentials oils continually for
a long period of time without giving your body a chance to rest and detox.
This is the reason that when Dr. Hill gave us the Candida blend, he stressed
the importance of giving your system a rest after 30 days. His suggestion was
a two week sabatical from the oregano and then we could start it up again.
Dr. Hill mentioned a number of times that it is always a good idea to switch
around to different oils, so your body does not get so used to them.
The website pubmed.com will probably have some good research on essential
oils with phenol.
I have always checked on the phenol content of the oils I use, in RL James book, Essential Oils,
Reference Guide. Isn't it great to have new books to reference from. There are things I could not
find in the new book, Modern Essentials, that I have been able to find in the Reference Guide.
There is also another one coming out before Christmas.
We all just want and need knowledge in regards to our using the oils, not just for us
but for others in need of wellness and natural health.
I hope this information give you what you were looking for.

Hi this is my first time posting on this site. This is great!

so, here is the question I've been asked.....

please help!

"In the book (Modern Essentials) I was reading about phenols on page
10 where it says that there are "some present concerns regarding liver
toxicity".  The Alpha CRS supplements contain several ingredients with
phenol.  Should this be a concern for the consumer?  Back on page 10
it says to dilute oils that have a high proportion of phenol or use
for a short period of time.  How do I know if the product has a high
phenol content and what constitutes a high phenol content?"

I don't want to just answer "everything is safe" and that's that...
That book IS a great book, by the way...

thanks!
