Re: [Everything doTERRA] Replacement for Ibuprofen and Advil

Hi Pat,

I am actually quite shocked that you posted my entry, because I know that you are very knowledgable about oils, and probably feel like there isn't any health problem that can't be solved by using oils.  I am quite positive that you don't want to give people in this group the idea that Advil could be an alternative to getting relief from pain.  I have learned a great deal from your posts, and most of the things that I tried was from your recommendations.  You suggest that I used to many oils, and you may be right, but I have also seen many posts on this group that have asked whether it is harmful to take to many oils.  I haven't seen any post that stated that by taking to many oils it would hurt you.  It may not help as much as you would like, but I never saw any strong opinions suggesting that by taking to many oils will hurt you.  It might be a waste to take to many oils, because the oils can only do so much.  Other than someone like you that has many years of experience with oils, I think it is very difficult sometimes to know what oils to use, because there are so many different oils that can be used to solve the same health problem.  The other factor we all deal with is what may work for one person, may not work for another.  In my case, I was only dealing with a serious case of a head cold, and not a cough.  If the inflammation and pressure in the sinus areas cannot be relieved in some way, a head ache will happen, and it can be quite painful.  It is constant pain until the inflammation and pressure can be released.  Even though I listed many oils that I used, I was very methodical in the way I used them.  I am also taking a full-dosage of LLV every day.  I would try 2-3 each time I would use oils.  I had a protocol of oils that I mostly stuck with for the 2 days that I treated my head cold, and I would change it up every once in awhile.  In most cases, I would layer them, and after 2-3 hours of not getting any relief, I would try something different.  For the first two days, my head was pounding with pain, and I could not get any pain relief in my head from the oils, no matter what I did.  Just because I gave you a long list of oils I used, does not mean I used them all at once.  I used some on my feet, I used some in a diffuser, I used some internally (a capsule of oils every 2-3 hours), I inhaled some oils like Breathe and Purify, and I applied some oils to my body.  I would take oils about every 2-3 hours, and contrary to your suggestion that I didn't give these oils a chance to work, I think 2-3 hours is long enough before trying something else.  In no case did I ever get the kind of relief I experienced after I took some Advil (not even close).  Let me just say, I hated doing that, and it was my last resort, but I knew it had worked for me in the past before I learned about oils.  I didn't try Advil until near the end of my second day of having a head cold.  Since I started using oils about 8 months ago, I have not used over the counter drugs or prescriptions since then, and even though I think of myself as being a healthy person (very rarely sick), I give alot of credit to these oils.  I would love to find an oil alternative to Advil that works the same way with a head cold.  In my case, Advil worked immediately (within 5 minutes after I took it), relieving inflammation, pain, and pressure in my head.  So don't worry, I only used Advil 2-3 times.  I am done taking Advil for now, and hopefully I will never have to use it again.  Sorry if any of this was offensive to anyone, but I am just trying to be real, and looking for some advice from someone that may have had a similar experience to mine, that found a good alternative to Advil when treating a head cold.  I really appreciate all of the suggestions.

Pat, I thank you for being open minded to what I had to share, and hopefully someone can learn from it, or from a suggestion of someone else that had my same problem, and discovered a good solution for it.  Thanks
