my grand daughter was 2 when she started doing puzzles- I think they were 9 or more pieces that she was doing.    Now she is 10 and does the 1000 pieces along with pap paw.

Maybe you should get puzzles with less pieces. My girls did puzzles but I know that they were a lot less than 24 pieces when they were 3 and even older. Twenty four seems to be a lot of pieces to start out with. Just the opinion of a granny. :)

Hi,
My kids love puzzles.. I would do it once with them. Then they will do it all by themselves. They enjoy doing it. I start with them from 18 months with 12 pieces. By 2 years they can do the 24. Your kid may need some encouragement to feel self confidence. By encouraging she'll solve it without ur help.

My little Claire likes puzzle a lot! We started to do it since she was 2 years. By the time she's 2.5, she can finish 80 pieces of puzzle within 9 min... in this case, I just gave her the piece one by one and she will put it on its place without asking me.

You can see it here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vWemWJqlFY

After that, she can finish 159 pieces within 32 minutes... unfortunately the link in youtube was erased by youtube because it's too long..

Hehe.. well that's from me...

As a mom, I used to not encourage my 2 year old to work independently, but to have her in my lap, snuggling and kissing her as she turns the pieces of the puzzle from right to left until she figured it out with my support. After all she will have her whole life to be operating in the independent mode. When she went to kinder, she started to work independently. When she came home she would work at the family desk. We run our business from home and our office has been set up to encourage our children to work while we work independently. They bring their homework and sit with us. After they are done, they can choose to read a book online, play a computer game, make dinner together, etc.... Hope this encourages you.

Different kids start playing with puzzles at different ages, depending on when u hv introduced them and wht is their level of interest.

Boys usually are more interested and may start following u very soon, once u have shown them. Girls may take some time and be more interested in making some creative blocks rather thn solving them.

Let the kid take her own time!

My son is 3 and he's been able to put put a 24 piece puzzle together by himself since he was 2. It takes more time the first time he does it but every next time it gets easier. He can also do a 50 or 60 piece puzzle with little assistance from an adult. I always encourage him to try to do it himself before offering a hint. And I refuse to do it for him; if anything I try to point out things that will help him to figure it out on his own. I am always very supportive and positive. Cheering and praising works wonders! He gets a great sense of accomplishment, pride and motivation when he succeeds. Hope this helps.

that was a very appropriate answer, the late john Holt of growing without schools believed in that approach.

Hi Ladies,

I recently heard of an online tutoring program for my daughter. I´m pretty unfamiliar with this sort of thing. Can anyone give me a little bit of insight? Has anyone used a service like this before? Thanks.
