[Everything doTERRA] Re: UTI

Jerianns,
I have suffered from chronic UTIs ever since getting married 16 years ago.  I now have them completely under control with preventative help.
Some of us just have very sensitive urinary tracts that can be agitated at the slightest invasions like a period.

Okay, so this is a very personal topic, so don't read any further if you are easily embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about this stuff...

Once I got married, I was getting a UTI every time I had intercourse and every time I had a period.  Don't judge--I always wipe front to back and I'm very, very clean.  Jerianns, your daughter will be plagued with this issue when she gets married if she's already having issues after periods.

I went to a urologist and found that my urinary tract is slightly bent, therefore it forever "holds" a portion of urine in the tube which can collect bacteria and cause the infections.  It's like a U-shaped water pipe that always holds a little water in the bend.  The only way to really rid the body of any bacteria is to flush out the entire tube every time you eliminate, but that is impossible for me.

A few things have helped...  when she is sexually active, she needs to make sure to eliminate (urinate) before and after intercourse.  Hopefully she doesn't need to worry about this part for a long time, though.  As far as the periods go, consider getting those flush-able wipes so she can clean herself more frequently throughout the day (always front-to-back of course).  Also, she should probably drink cranberry juice that entire week, too.  Make sure it is real cranberry juice and not a drink blend.  There are some great brands out there that mix with grapes and raspberries for a better taste--I really like Northland brand.

The urologist I saw prescribed to me an antibiotic that I have on hand to use after intercourse.  If she can swallow pills, she may benefit from something similar--a special antibiotic that she can take once at the end of her period (or every day of her period if the UTIs are plaguing her during the period as well as after).

Obviously you are into natural healing or you wouldn't be posting here... I'm just sharing what I have dealt with thus far in my life (I'm 37).  I'm new to doTerra and haven't yet used the oils to treat a UTI since I already had them under control once I joined in January.  But, logic would tell me that if you find you like an essential oil treatment for UTIs, I would use that treatment all throughout the week she is on her period as a pre-treater so she can avoid the painful UTI altogether.  Prevention is the best medicine, right?

Do you have access to a Modern Essentials book?  Or get onto EverythingEssential.ME and find the UTI remedies there.  I think there are some you can use topically on the abdomen.  And if she can swallow pills, you could use something like OnGuard in an empty capsule on a daily basis to keep away the infection during that week.  I really don't think I'd be inserting a garlic clove into the vagina at this young of an age--I would find that to be traumatic at that age.  Starting your period is traumatic enough.  No baths, only showers.  As soon as she's ready, use tampons instead of pads.  Use laundry detergent that is free of perfumes and dies.  You want to do everything possible to keep all irritants away from the urinary tract.

I'd try the cranberry juice and the oils that are antibiotic topically and internally by mouth as regular PREVENTATIVE measures every month and see if that does the trick.
Best of luck--I feel your daughter's pain!
Warmly,
Elaine
