[Everything doTERRA] Re: Chihuahua with IBS

Yes, it is possible to use doTERRA essential oils with small animals.
(I am an animal aromatherapist.) Dogs have quite sensitive skin, and
they can develop hot spots if you use oils undiluted. It is just a
good practice to dilute the oils with FCO when using them with dogs.
Remember that "diluting" does not change the therapeutic properties of
the essential oil. Rather, the carrier oil "captures" the volatile
molecules of the essential oil, and then "carries" them through the
skin. Without a carrier oil, a large percentage of what you apply
topically will dissipate into the air. Another reason to use a carrier
oil is that animals can't talk, to tell you if the essential oil is
uncomfortable to them. It is better to be safe than sorry, so I dilute
everything, including Lavender--especially for such a small dog.

For digestive problems, I would use DigestZen and apply it to the pads
of the paws as suggested above, and even dab a little onto the tummy
and rub it in. Consider other anti-spasmodic oils as well, if the
DigestZen does not seem to do the trick. Serenity might be a good one
to try, if the IBS is triggered by stress.

Some of the artificial ingredients put in to essential oils to extend
them include compounds made from turpentine and acetylene gas--not to
mention mineral oil and more. So it is no wonder that people are
cautioned not to ingest them. Frankly, why would anyone even use such
a product on their skin, or inhale it? Only because they don't know
what's in the bottle. Thank you, doTERRA, for making sure that such
poisons are never in your oils!
