We have found that on guard applied externally down the entire length of the throat either before a known allergin or at the first sign of swelling made a HUGE difference for my daughter. In fact, it's a nearly immediate relief. I would suspect that an internal swallow of a drop or two to coat the throat would be effective as well but my 9 year old will not do it unless she SUPER scared. We try to not let it get to that point. Good luck!
