It's actually in reference to your monthly cycle not just the week of your menstrual period. The first day of your period is the first day of your cycle. Between days 11 and 21 is when ovulation typically occurs. Once ovulation has occurred your next period will begin about 14 days after that. So personally, I only use clary sage during the first half of my monthly cycle but after my period has ended. Around the time that I expect ovulation to occur I discontinue using clary sage until I have completed my next period. Then I begin using it again.
This is just what I do. I don't know if that is what others do.
