Receding gums is generally caused by gum disease, a bacterial infection. On Guard will kill the bacteria and the toothpaste, when used regularly, will encourage healthy growth of tissue sans bacteria! The On Guard has been shown in lab studies to prevent bacterial growth in inanimate objects for up to 7 days with just one, heavily diluted application. One can only assume it would prevent bacterial growth for at least several hours between brushing!
