Re: [Everything doTERRA] Dog with dry skin

Great ideas! We've only had her for about 4 weeks and I was going for faster results...I'm an impatient one! We do feed her blue buffalo grain free, I add vitamin E but I'll be adding Coconut oil as well.
Thank you for all the suggestions!

A spoonful of good quality raw coconut oil (not FCO) will show results in a few days. Spoon size depends on dog size. Thai is generally better quality than Philippines sourced if you can get it.  When I had to downgrade my dog food quality for a few months my dog got quite dry. It seems that cheaper food doesn't have enough fat in it. Make sure the dog isn't drinking tap water with chlorine. That's not only deadly long term but drying.

Good morning! From my experience the dog food is often times the one to blame. My chocolate lab had the dry itchy skin and he was on a regular food. We switched him to grain free and trying different protein types as well and this is much better. At the vet clinic I worked at a few years ago we would often recommend switching food to a higher quality to heal the symptoms, not just treat them. If you are feeding Blue Buffalo, is it the grain free version? I realized that my dog needs to be away from corn and wheat, but can tolerate other grains. So we feed Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers soul. It could take 2-3 months to clear out the yucky skin before you see a big difference. In the mean time I would try a drop of lavender in a teaspoon of olive oil. Rub just a drop or two of that combo between your hands and massage into your pets skin after baths. My dogs all have shorter coats so this was very effective for them. Good luck!
