Does anyone here have experience with horses or can point me in the right direction to help my friend. Here is her message to me:
"Hi Erika. He has an abcess probably caused by pigeon fever. The vet is doing a culture to determine the bacteria type. Pigeon fever is also called horse distemper, and it lives in the soil and is usually transmitted by flies. It can be on the surface or internal. Dreamer's is internal. In looking for the cause ofnhis lameness we found a bone cysts and arthritis in his right front shoulder. He also has had stock up (fluid retention) in his sheath for years that goes away with exercise. Stock up is pretty normal. They aren't designed for stalls. How great it would be if there were a natural remedy for it, though, other than exercise! With the abcess draining he has an open wound now, and the vet suspects it might break through somewhere else, too, because it is so deep. I am not sure the arthritis is hurting him yet. The abcess was splitting his muscle and causing him the lameness. We still have to deal with the arthritis long term, though, so I have him on joint supplements. I notice there is an oil for it. I would sure be willing to try anything to help him!"
Thank you for your time!
Erika Tenney, C.H.L.C.
Have a healthy day!
