They should be fine. What you need to avoid is creams and lotions which will clog the fibers (zinc, etc), or enzymes and vinegar which will damage the PUL.
-- I use the OG concentrate in my wash which works really well, and helps to strip it. I will put melalecua or OG in the fabric softener if he has had a bad reaction to something.
On my son's bum, I use a balm with Lavender, calendula, beeswax, jojoba and vitamin E which has been fine. Occasionally I will use straight lavender, or with a little bit of FCO. I also use flushable liners with each nappy so I on't have to deal with the solids.
