All of the citrus oils say to avoid direct sunlight after applying because it can make your skin more sensitive. I suspect that's what happened. Have you ever applied these oils to the same place, not gone in the sun, and not gotten a burn? I would avoid direct sun to areas you have applied citrus oils for at least 24 hours (that's pretty conservative). Or your skin could just be very sensitive to the citrus oils. Try diluting them next time. Lavender is wonderful for burns but I would dilute it with coconut oil or aloe until it's more healed.

I was outside for a few hours counting the time before and after and took a really hot shower when I got home. I wear my hair down and went about my day, as well as my Sabbath. But when I got home from church and pulled my hair up my husband pointed out two terrible burns on both sides of my neck.
