I pick the top part of the stinging nettle plant, which grows wild most places. I use a scissors to cut the top part and put it in a paper bag. When I get home I use chop sticks to handle the nettles, not my hands. Until the leaf is put in boiling water, one can still get stung.
I rinse off the nettles in a big bowl, again, using the chop sticks- or you can use gloves, which I use when I pick the leaves. I boil a quart pot of water with the pot filled with nettles.
I just boil for one minute, then leave the pot for the leaves to decoct. For strong nettle tea, I may do this at night and then leave out all night, and then drink during the day. You will be able to strain off the tea, and then by hand, squeeze the leaves.
I like to drink the quart of nettle tea throughout the day.

Sometimes I blend the boilded tea with the already saturated leaves in a blender.
It is easy to get nettles to grow right in your yard. They don't need good soil- they do light light-

The best way to get absorbable vitamins, minerals and especially iron is by making a nettle tea ( urtica diotica). You can also use those nettles in a luscious soup.
The heating process gets rid of the 'sting'.

Just a thought for the iron supplements: My doctor wanted to put me on iron supplements in my third trimester of pregnancy. I knew that iron supplements causes constipation. I decided to go the food route. Everyday I ate around 1/4 cup each of cashews, raisins or prunes, and drank at 1 cup of natural orange juice. Vitamin C helps you absorb iron. The other foods are high in iron. In two weeks my iron count was up.
