The best way to get absorbable vitamins, minerals and especially iron is by making a nettle tea ( urtica diotica). You can also use those nettles in a luscious soup.

Just a thought for the iron supplements: My doctor wanted to put me on iron supplements in my third trimester of pregnancy. I knew that iron supplements causes constipation. I decided to go the food route. Everyday I ate around 1/4 cup each of cashews, raisins or prunes, and drank at 1 cup of natural orange juice. Vitamin C helps you absorb iron. The other foods are high in iron. In two weeks my iron count was up.
