I'd work very closely with a functional medicine practitioner who is VERY knowledgeable about thyroid and hormones.

I switched FM doctors because I tried weaning but my new Dr, who is also my upline, believes clearing my gut will help tremendously. I also got on natural thyroid hormone (NTH).

I've learned via the yahoo group https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NaturalThyroidHormones/ that there are TONS of things that can affect your thyroid's function. They also maintain a list of patient-recommended good doctors (I need to submit mine, actually!)
