Then I discovered wool nursing pads. Wool wicks away moisture and is naturally anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. Once I started using the wool, I never had thrush again. I used them with my 2nd child, no thrush whatsoever. Now, they are one of my standard gifts to new moms who plan on nursing.
If you are interested, you can find some great wool nursing pads on Etsy. I purchased mine from a friend, Christy, and she sells under SewFussy on Etsy.
