[Everything doTERRA] Re: cats

I second  Skye Patterson's thedogoiler.com. There are files on different topics that you can download, including one on cat safety with essential oils. See http://www.thedogoiler.com/health-for-cats.html

Cats are not dogs and their livers don't metabolize oils as well as dogs or humans. Some oils (including melaleuca and citrus oils) can be deadly and others can also cause serious problems. IMHO it's better to avoid the dangerous ones altogether. When using the others topically, even when diluted a lot, I'd be concerned about them lapping oils off and ingesting them, so I don't use them that way.

For diffusing, Skye Patterson recommends avoiding using Breathe because of the melaleuca and lemon. Occasionally, I'll diffuse On Guard (which has wild orange) in the open living area where my cats hang out, but I wouldn't do it in a small, enclosed area/room. The feline sense of smell is much more sensitive than ours and they should be able to go to a different area if the smell gets too much for them (as it does sometimes for me too).
