Be VERY CAUTIOUS about using essential oils with cats. Because their
livers lack some enzymes present in other mammals, they do not
metabolize essential oils well and in fact essential oils can be toxic
to them. Animals are not just like humans--think about dogs and
chocolate! Chocolate is good for humans in many ways, but toxic for
dogs. And consider how catnip is calming for humans but very exciting
for cats.

Any oil containing phenols should NEVER be used with cats. (Melaleuca
is one oil that is mild for humans but toxic to cats.) If you have the
Modern Essentials book or another good reference book, look up the
constituents of any oil you consider using for a cat to make sure
there are no phenols in it. Consider using hydrosols instead of
essential oils for cats.
