[Everything doTERRA] Wax Warmer vs. a Diffuser

I do not have a diffuser at this point. I do have a "wax warmer" at home and at work. I know others who are using the wax warmers to get the oils in the air. I have been told to put some EVCO in the plate on the warmer with a drop or 2 of the oil. Does this work similarly to using a diffuser or not?  I am just starting with EO's and am looking forward to all they have to offer my family and myself.
