Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: Oils & Pregnancy

I had a doctor once tell me that toxemia was more likely when your kidney's were weak so if I were to get toxemia or was trying to prevent it, I would work to strengthen my kidney's (and liver as they are both filters)...

Oils recommended for kidney's are: Lemongrass, Thyme, Grapefruit, Geranium and Clary Sage.  Modern Essentails also recommends the EO Mega's.

I would suggest doing a little personal research on the subject, as
well as listening to your body and praying about it.
Here are my thoughts on this subject. Mind you.. I am far from being
an essential oil expert like Dr. Hill! I work as a doula, and work in
the natural community, and have been using herbs and oils with my
pregnancies and kids. I haven't had doTerra the whole time (man, I
wish!!), and am having to relearn how I use essential oils. The oils
that I would never DREAM of ingesting in the past, I now eat sometimes
on a daily basis! I'm going to the source (doTERRA leadership. I heart
Emily!), and asking a ton of questions! I'm also asking my EO friends
who are learning along side me. Some of these awesome people on this
list are using doTERRA oils in ways that "traditionally" are no-no's
and having great successes with them. That being said, here's my bit
on Emmenagogues. The lion's share of my knowlege is on herbs, so you
get to hear about something non-oily too...

As far as oils that are avoided during pregnancy, look up
Emmenagogues. An Emmenagogue is an herb or plant that have the ability
to assist menstruation and get the blood flow back to normal.
Also, an emmenagogue HERB and an emmenagogue ESSENTIAL OIL will differ
in strength and chemical make up. MOST emmenagogues, herb and
essential oil, are gentle and can be used safely and with wisdom (ie.
muscle test and listen to your own body about it, research and ask)
during a pregnancy, such as ginger for morning sickness.
Most abortifacient herbs have been classified as emmenagogues since
the 1400's by authors who for whatever reason did not want to be
direct when describing the herbs abilities. Most often this was to
avoid persecution during the witch hunts, when possessing such
knowledge could be fatal. While most abortifacient herbs are
classified as emmenagogues, not all emmenagogues will cause abortion.
These two categories of herbs are difficult to separate because in
truth they do overlap. An emmenagogue is an herb which encourages
menstrual bleeding, and abortifacient herbs do this as well, but when
dealing with pregnancy many emmenagogues are not strong enough to
cause the pregnancy to abort, they can however in individuals with a
weak constitution, or where the fertilized egg is not healthy and
likely to abort on its own. Traditionally there are oils that are
avoided during pregnancy. You'll note that some are abortifacient and
some are emmenagogues. As of yet, doTERRA doesn't carry an
abortifacient oil.
A gentle emmenagogue wont abort a healthy pregnancy, and I have seen
several doula clients use a gentle emmenagogue essential oil
throughout a pregnancy and had a positive experience with that oil.
Some people are more sensitive, or may have a difficult pregnancy, and
may need to avoid that oil for a little time. Only you know what is
best for you and your baby.
One story I love, is about one of my friends who had a healthy home
birth with her twins. She LOVED Clary Sage (classified as an
emmenagogue and is AWESOME for PMS), and would put it on her legs
everyday during her pregnancy. I used ginger (another gentle
emmenagogue), during several of my pregnancies, for morning sickness;
and at the end of one of my pregnancy's I used an herb that was
classified as an abortifacient to help my body prepare for labor.
Herbs and oils have other properties in them that assist the body as a
whole, and work together in harmony for homeostasis.
I trust the research that Dr. Hill has done, and have seen the effects
of doTERRA oils on myself, my family and my clients and their
family's. I believe him when he says certain oils are safe for
expecting mothers... there is definitely a huge difference between
most eo's on the market and doTERRA eo's. I'm also a big believer in
listening to one's wisdom. You are the best expert when it comes to
what goes into your body.
Anyhoo, here is a list of Emmenagogue EO that doTerra carries. There
are others, but we dont carry them. See what you think, dont freak
out, and listen to your own wisdom. Ask again until you feel at peace
about it. I'm excited to hear your story!

Emmenagogue EO's (these are all classified under Gentle Emmenagogue,
if you would like I can send you a list of the heavy duty ones, of
which doTerra doesnt carry.)

Cassia
Cinnamon
Ginger
Clary Sage
Chamomile
Marjoram
Myrrh
Peppermint
Rosemary
