Re: [Everything doTERRA] doTERRA skin care choices

Judith, thank you so much for clarifying what can and what shouldn't be used on the skin if suffering from rosacea and then explaining the why of it. That was very helpful to me.

I would like to add my findings regarding rosacea to this thread….  I have rosacea and found that the Lifelong Vitality supplements were very beneficial in helping to reduce the redness and inflammation on my face.  The Verage skin care line has also helped.  One amendment I would like to make to Dee's recommendation below is NEVER use anything rougher than a soft cloth, like a baby's wash cloth, on skin that is troubled.  Rosacea sufferers have very different skin than other people.  The harsher wash pads may create micro-tears in the skin which can become irritated and inflamed.  Additionally, the use of abrasive washing materials may lead to the formation of small capillaries near the skin, adding to the reddened appearance of the skin.

Since cooling the skin is helping your rosacea, and peppermint is often recommended for cooling feverish skin would a facial serum made up of say 5-10 drops of peppermint oil blended in about 1/4-1/2 cup of unrefined coconut oil be beneficial?

I use unrefined coconut oil [blended with essential oils] as my moisturizer every day and love how my skin feels. If case you're interested here's what I did:

·         Place jar of Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil in hot water to melt

·         Pour melted oil into a glass jar (I found some cute glass jars at Hobby Lobby) of appropriate size - mine is 1/2 cup

·         Add essential oils - this time I used

o    Arborvitae (3-5)

o    Frankincense (7)

o    Geranium (3-5)

o    DDR Prime (10)

o    Helichrysum (5)

o    Lime (5)

·         After adding the essential oils I took a mini-whisk and spun it in the mixture for a few minutes to make it less dense. Now that it's hardened again it's a pretty white.

This will last me a long time because it doesn't take much to cover one's face, neck and décolleté. My skin is so soft. I have what would probably be classified as "normal" skin. I'm now 63 and even though I definitely had the "oily T-Zone" in my younger years I started using moisturizer in my mid-20's. Many people mistakenly think that if they have oily skin they don't need moisturizer, when too often they're producing all that oil because the skin is dry.

To keep my skin fresh I use those rough gloves you can purchase at any Target when I shower but also every time I wash my face - I don't scrub hard since the facial skin is delicate but that light scrubbing is great for exfoliating.

Okay, that's my two-cents worth.

My dermatologist told me about Rosacea to remember that it's all about too much heat. So, having cool showers, staying away from hot drinks and foods. (Even spicy hot can trigger it.) I always over heat at the gym but to counteract that he is having me bring a water bottle full of ice to put on my face to cool off in the middle of working out. It's really helping and I'm off meds. The cool showers really help too. Sometimes I'll even put an ice pack on my face to cool off.

I am 59 and I use the Verage. I think it works great. I do not have Rocacea however.

I have been reading old posts and the various websites showing the various skin care products, but am frustrated in that I'm not seeing anything that recommends one skin care kit over the other.  I am over 50, have dry skin and also rosacea so need whichever one will address healing the skin and keeping it calm first and foremost, and then whatever will improve aging skin second.

Anyone out there have any suggestions between Verage or what they simply call Skin Care System?  I don't think I want the clear skin HD products, do I?

thanks, Diane
